A request is the unit of work. It says what you need and why, it belongs to one named person, it carries a date, and everything that happens to it stays underneath it: the reply, the files, the chasing and the change of mind.

Five kinds, because not everything is a file
Most tools only do uploads. Half of what holds a job up is a question nobody has answered, or a decision nobody has made: which day the removal van comes, who is supervising on site, whether the draft contract can go out.

- Question for something only they know
- Form for answers you want as fields, not as a photograph of a form
- Decision for a choice you need them to make
- Approval for a yes before you go ahead
- Any of them can carry a due date, or none
The ask and the answer stay together
A file arrives attached to the question that asked for it. Six months later the record still says what it was for, who sent it and when.
A status you both understand
Awaiting reply, ready for review, complete. The person you asked sees the same words you do, so nobody has to ask where something is.
An internal note nobody else sees
Chase on Friday, the survey is booked for the 14th, this one is Jess’s. Notes sit in the same thread and are never shown to the person you asked.
It explains itself
A short title for the list, the full ask underneath, and a note on what counts as done. The person reading it should not have to reply asking what you meant.
- Mention a colleague with @ and they are told
- Duplicate a request beside itself when one turns into three
- Move a request to another pack without losing its history

Change many at once
Tick the ones you mean and a bar appears along the bottom: set a date on all of them, clear the dates, reassign them, complete them or reopen them. If you get it wrong, undo puts every one back exactly as it was.
