Opening it

Choose Search, the first row in the left-hand rail, or press Cmd+K on a Mac and Ctrl+K on anything else. The shortcut works on every page of the staff app, so you do not have to go back to a list to find something.

Before you type, the box lists the pages you opened most recently in this browser, so the client you were just working on is one press away.

What it matches

Type two or more characters. Results appear as you type, in groups, with up to eight in each group. Names that begin with what you typed come first.

  • Clients: by name or reference.
  • Request packs and Requests: by their title, and by the client’s name. Typing a client’s name brings up their work even when no title mentions them.
  • People: by name or email.
  • Files: by filename.
  • Templates: by title.
  • Notes: your team’s notes on a client, so a note saying who to chase and when is one search away.

The keyboard

The arrow keys move through the results. Enter opens the highlighted one, or the first if you have not moved. Escape closes the box.

Where a result opens

A client opens Request packs, narrowed to that client’s packs. A pack opens its own page, and a request opens inside its pack. A person opens their client’s People tab. A file opens the request it was sent to, or the Files page if it is no longer on one. A note opens its client’s Notes tab. A template opens the template’s page, where you can read it or start a pack from it.

The full page

See all results, the last row in the box, opens the full results page at /search. It shows the same groups with a count beside each and up to 20 results in every group. Use it when a common name, such as a request called Bank statements, matches more than the box can show.

The shortcut waits while you type. Cmd+K does nothing while your cursor is in a field or another dialog is open, so it never swallows something you were writing. Finish, or click out of the field, and press it again, or choose Search in the rail.

Keyboard shortcuts

Press ? on any staff page for the list. Besides Cmd+K or Ctrl+K for search, g followed by a letter goes somewhere, and the second key has to arrive within a second:

  • g then o or w: Request packs.
  • g then r: All requests.
  • g then t: Templates.
  • g then f: Files.
  • g then m: Team.
  • g then p: Team, on its Client contacts tab.
  • g then s: Settings.

Escape closes a dialog or the search. Shortcuts wait while you are typing in a field or have a dialog open.
